Only Hours Left To File Form 2290

0
Today is the deadline to file your Form 2290 for Heavy Vehicle Use Tax.  The IRS will be shutting down at 1PM EST for their scheduled maintenance and will not be back up until noon on September 4, 2012.  Due to the scheduled maintenance, the IRS has extended the E-File deadline to September 7, 2012.

If you miss the 1PM cutoff today, still go to ExpressTruckTax.com and file your return.  You will still want to click on the ‘Transmit Return to IRS’ button, but the IRS will not actually process your return until they resume operations on Tuesday, September 4, 2012.  If it is after 1PM, you can expect to receive your Stamped Schedule 1 back on Tuesday September 4, 2012.

If you are paper filing the return still must be postmarked by today, August 31, 2012 to avoid IRS penalties and interest.

Although the deadline has been extended, we encourage you to get your returns filed now. If you have any questions, please contact us at our US based customer support center in Rock Hill, SC at 704-234-6005 during our extended customer support hours of 8AM-11.30PM EST or email us at support@ExpressTruckTax.com.

How to Handle a Suspended Vehicle That is Destroyed

0
When you have a suspended vehicle that is destroyed at some point during the year, how do you report that to the IRS? Since there was no tax paid the previous year, you would not have to report the vehicle as being destroyed to the IRS.

If the vehicle had been sold or transferred, it would then need to be reported as a ‘Prior Year Suspended Vehicle’ that was sold/transferred.  You will need the name of the person/business you sold/transferred it to and the date.

If you have a taxable vehicle that was destroyed during the tax year, you would want to make sure that you report that vehicle as destroyed to the IRS for two reasons. First, if you do not report it as destroyed, the IRS will assume you owe the tax on it and you could risk a penalty for not filing.  The other reason is when you file it destroyed, you will be able to claim a refund for the months that you had previously paid for, but it was not used.

Our tax experts at ExpressTruckTax can help you with this question and more.  Or check out our FAQ’s to find answers to your specific situation.  E-File Form 2290 and receive your Stamped Schedule 1 within minutes at ExpressTruckTax.com.

Friday is the deadline so to E-File the Form 2290 online now, go to ExpressTruckTax.com. If you have any questions, contact our friendly US based customer support center in Rock Hill, SC at 704-234-6005 or email us at support@ExpressTruckTax.com.

Form 2290 Suspended Vehicles

0
We here at ExpressTruckTax.com are frequently asked why they have to file a Form 2290 Heavy Vehicle Use Tax Return if they only have a vehicle that is considered suspended.  If a highway motor vehicle does not exceed mileage 5,000 miles or less (7,500 miles or less for agricultural vehicles) it is considered suspended and is exempt from tax.

Mileage use limit means the use of a vehicle on public highways 5,000 miles or less (7,500 miles or less for agricultural vehicles). The mileage use limit applies to the total mileage a vehicle is used during a period, regardless of the number of owners.

An agricultural vehicle is any highway motor vehicle that is:
  • 1. Used (or expected to be used) primarily for farming purposes, and
  • 2. Registered (under state laws) as a highway motor vehicle used for farming purposes for the entire period. A special tag or license plate identifying the vehicle as used for farming is not required for it to be considered an agricultural vehicle.

So why would do you have to file?  In order to obtain your registration and/or tags, state require and Stamped Schedule 1 from the IRS for all vehicles 55,000 lbs or more.  You must file Form 2290 in order to receive your Stamped Schedule 1.

At ExpressTruckTax.com, you can file your Form 2290 and receive your Stamped Schedule 1 within minutes. Friday is the deadline so to E-File the Form 2290 online now, go to ExpressTruckTax.com. If you have any questions, contact our friendly US based customer support center in Rock Hill, SC at 704-234-6005 or email us at support@ExpressTruckTax.com.

Last Minute Tips for E-Filing Form 2290

0
ExpressTruckTax.com is the quickest, easiest, and best value for filing your Form 2290 (Heavy Truck Use Tax) online with the IRS. The August 31st due date for the tax is getting closer, and here are a few points to keep in mind while E-Filing.

  • E-file your 2290 returns with Expresstrucktax.com
  • Review Federal Tax ID# or EIN# [Employer Identification Number]
  • Review your Tax Year and Month
  • Review your VIN# [Vehicle Identification Number]
  • Sign and date your return electronically
  • Choose IRS payment option
  • Review all the information
  • Double check your Business Name
  • E-File Your 2290 Return

Choose an IRS payment option:
There are several options to pay the HVUT taxes with the IRS.
  • Electronic Funds Withdrawal, or Direct Debit: The IRS will collect the taxes due after they are provided with a bank account number and routing number
  • EFTPS: You have to schedule the payment to the IRS by going to EFTPS.gov.
  • Check/Money Order: The IRS also supports Check/Money Order as long as it is scheduled by the 31st.

We strongly advise our Canadian customers to use this option as EFW may not work for Canadian banks.

Just a reminder, if you choose Direct Debit (EFW) as a payment method, the IRS will not process your return during the weekends, or on federal holidays, but on the next business day.

Review Tax ID Numbers
Carefully check Tax Identification numbers on your return.

Review Your Return
Expresstrucktax.com is a very smart program, it automatically checks for any errors before you transmit your 2290 return to IRS, but it’s always good to double check everything before you hit the ‘Transmit to IRS’ button.

We are always available to help if needed. Viisit ExpressTruckTax.com or contact our friendly US Truck Tax Experts in Rock Hill, SC at 704-234-6005 or email us at support@ExpressTruckTax.com, for English and Spanish support!

Beware of Email Scams

0
We have received inquiries from some of our clients about suspicious emails from the IRS regarding their Federal Tax Payment.  Please note the IRS DOES NOT communicate payment information through email.

These emails may seem to some as legit, they come from support@irs.gov and the physical address they have listed: Internal Revenue Service

Metro Plex 1
8401 Corporate Drive, Suite 300
Landover, MD  20785

IS an actual IRS office.  But these emails are scams.  The email directs recipients to a bogus link for a transaction report that, when clicked, downloads malicious software (malware) that infects the intended victim’s computer. The malware is designed to send back to the scammer personal and financial information already contained on the taxpayer's computer or obtained through capturing keystrokes. The scammer uses this personal and financial information to commit identity theft.

See the email below received from one of our customers:
Your federal Tax transaction (ID: 1585160020943), recently initiated from your bank account was returned by your financial institution.

Rejected Tax Transfer
Tax Transaction ID:    1585160020943
Reason of rejection    See details in the report below
FederalTax Transaction Report    tax_report_1585160020943.doc (Microsoft Word Document)

Internal Revenue Service, Metro Plex 1, 8401 Corporate Drive, Suite 300, Landover, MD 20785
Remember, the IRS DOES NOT communicate payment information through email.
If you should receive this email or anything that you believe it a scam, DO NOT click on any links or open any attachments.  Do not reply, instead forward the email to phishing@irs.gov and then DELETE the email.

For more information see: http://www.irs.gov/privacy/article/0,,id=179820,00.html

We at ExpressTruckTax.com want to keep you informed and protected against the scams out there.  Let others know, so they are aware that these emails are NOT from the IRS.

IRS Recommends E-Filing Form 2290 HVUT

0
Anyone who is filing a return with 25 or more vehicles is required to file electronically, but the IRS is encouraging everyone to do so. Through an IRS Authorized E-File Provider, like ExpressTruckTax.com, you can file your Form 2290, pay your HVUT taxes owed to the IRS and receive your Stamped Schedule 1 within minutes. When you E-File your Form 2290 for Heavy Vehicle Use Tax, it will save you time and you will have an online record of previous year’s filings.

The entire process only takes a few minutes, including getting your Schedule 1 back. No more manually filling out paper returns and mailing them in and waiting to receive your Schedule 1 back in the mail, or taking into the IRS field office only to stand in line, often times for hours. When you E-File you avoid all of that and once you create your account and file your return, it is even easier for future years, because you will not have to reenter all the information; it will already be in the system.

It is your responsibility to know when and if you have to file. You must file Form 2290 and Schedule 1 for the tax period beginning on July 1, 2012, and ending on June 30, 2013, if a taxable highway motor vehicle (defined below) is registered, or required to be registered, in your name under state, District of Columbia, Canadian, or Mexican law at the time of its first use during the period and the vehicle has a taxable gross weight of 55,000 pounds or more.

The deadline is August 31, 2012, so file now. The IRS will shut down their E-Filing system on at 1pm August 31, 2012 for maintenance over the Labor Day Holiday Weekend. The E-Filing system will resume on at noon on Tuesday, September 4, 2012. Since it will only take minutes, there is no need to put it off until the last minute.

To E-File the Form 2290 online now, go to ExpressTruckTax.com. If you have any questions, contact our friendly US based customer support center in Rock Hill, SC at 704-234-6005 or email us at support@ExpressTruckTax.com.

Heavy Highway Vehicle Use Tax Return Form 2290 (HVUT) Information

0
HVUT is the Heavy Vehicle Use Tax that is a fee assessed annually on heavy vehicles operating on public highways at registered gross weights equal to or exceeding 55,000 pounds. The gross taxable weight of a vehicle is determined by adding the unloaded weight of the motor vehicle and any trailers together with the maximum load customarily carried on-road by the truck-trailer combination.

You must file Form 2290 for the tax period beginning on July 1, 2012, and ending on June 30, 2013, if a taxable highway motor vehicle (defined below) is registered, or required to be registered, in your name under state, District of Columbia, Canadian, or Mexican law at the time of its first use during the period and the vehicle has a taxable gross weight of 55,000 pounds or more.

There are a few instances where a vehicle is exempt from paying the HVUT tax, even if most of those instances; a Form 2290 is required to be filed even if no tax is due. You can find detailed information on the IRS site at www.irs.gov/trucker.

You need: Business Details - Business Name (Sole proprietor can use their legal name) and address, EIN (Employer Identification Number), details of the authorized signatory.

Vehicle Details - Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and Gross weight of the Vehicle.

Form of IRS payment-we suggest direct debit.

Heavy Vehicle Use Taxes must be filed using the Form 2290 on an annual basis. The Tax period for Heavy Vehicles begins on July 1st and ends on June 30th.The Annual renewal of your Form 2290 for a new tax period IS DUE BY August 31st each year.

For New Vehicles placed in service, the IRS Form 2290 must be filed by the last day of the month following the month of first use. For example, if you purchase and first use a vehicle in January, you must file a Form 2290 by the end of February.

You can still paper file, but the IRS requires anyone filing for 25 or more vehicles do so electronically and recommends that everyone do so.

Electronically: File Form 2290 electronically through any electronic return originator (ERO), transmitter, and/or intermediate service provider (ISP) participating in the IRS e-file program for excise taxes, such as ExpressTruckTax.com. IRS Heavy Vehicle Use Tax Form 2290 Stamped Schedule 1

0
ExpressTruckTax has a solution to E-File IRS Form 2290 and get a stamped Schedule 1 as simple as possible.

The Stamped Schedule 1 is required in order to register a vehicle. If you mail the Form 2290 to the IRS, it can take 4-6 weeks before it is processed. It can be very stressful to wait until the last minute to register your vehicle because you are waiting for the IRS to send you a stamped schedule 1. If you choose to physically take to the IRS, the nearest office may be many miles away. There can also be very long waiting period at the IRS office of up to several hours.

The quickest and easiest way to receive your Stamped Schedule 1 is to E-File your Form 2290. E-Filing has become more and more popular among taxpayers and tax professionals. The IRS itself recommends E-Filing as their preferred method for filing Form 2290. A leading provider of this service for those in the Trucking or Transportation industry is www.ExpressTruckTax.com.

Instead of waiting for hours or up to 6 weeks for the IRS to stamp your schedule 1 and send it back to you, Express Truck Tax will get your Stamped Schedule 1 within minutes of filing. When you login to the site, you can enter the information for the Form 2290, and Express Truck Tax will then create a Schedule 1 based on that information. That form will be sent to the IRS electronically, and they will then send the stamped Schedule 1 back to Express Truck Tax, who will then automatically email the file to the taxpayer.

This document can also be faxed as well as emailed to the taxpayer as soon as the IRS processes the form. The form will be transmitted with a watermark as well as an IRS E-File logo since the document will not be physically stamped. When ExpressTruckTax sends the Stamped Schedule 1 to the taxpayer, it will be sent as a pdf attachment. Although the form will not be physically stamped, the official E-File watermark serves as an official IRS stamp.
