It's 2290 Deadline Day!

Hard to believe another tax season has come and gone; it seems like it just began. Today officially marks the deadline for Heavy Vehicle Use Taxes and Form 2290, and for those of you that haven’t filed yet, it’s time to get a move on!

Why push off what you have to do any longer and subject yourself to late penalties? We know you give enough of your hard-earned money to the IRS every year, so make sure that you get filed on time so you don’t have to give them any more!

How Can I File Today?

Just head on over to, and you can get e-filed and receive your Schedule 1 in minutes! If you haven’t already filed with us before, you’ll need to create an account. All you’ll need to e-file is your:

  • EIN (employer identification number)
  • Vehicle VIN (Vehicle Identification Number)
  • Vehicle Taxable Gross Weight (Weight of Truck+Trailer+Maximum Load)

Once you finish your filing, we’ll send you a copy of your Schedule 1 to your email as soon as it’s accepted, which usually takes 20 minutes or less. You’ll also have the option to receive a text notification upon acceptance, automatic fax of your Schedule 1, and even a postal mailing of your full form if you’d like.

Plus, if you’ve filed with us before and none of your information has changed, you can copy last year’s return! Just click “Start New Return” from your dashboard after login, and then after choosing the tax year and first used month, just select “Copy a Previously Accepted Return”. No needless data entry, just click, pay, and transmit. Doesn’t get much easier than that, right?

What Happens if I Don’t Get Filed Today?

Well we don’t want to scare you but if you don’t file on time, you will be subject to late fees and penalties. The penalty for late payment of highway use taxes is 4.5% interest that accrues monthly on the total tax amount due. So for those of you with larger tax bills be sure that you file on time, because the interest will add up in a hurry.

If you need any help going through our software or have any 2290 related questions, just give our support specialists a call at 704.234.6005, or email us at We’ll be extending our support hours just for YOU! That’s right, we’ll be here all day for the deadline to help answer any of your questions and to make sure you get filed.

The Countdown is On: Getting Your EIN

The Heavy Vehicle Use Tax season is drawing to a close, Trucking Nation! There’s only a few more days before the deadline and you need to have all your trucks in a row so you can e-file with ease.

The first thing you need in order to e-file your HVUT is your EIN. EIN stands for for Employer Identification Number and it is imperative that you have one before you file.

With only 4 days left to get your 2290s e-filed, it is past time to register for an EIN. Especially since it takes the IRS up to 10 business days for your EIN to become active. Before that your EIN will be rejected by any e-filing system and you will be unable to submit your Form 2290.

While there isn’t enough time for you to get your EIN and still e-file on time, you need to request one right away. Because no matter what you need to e-file! And the sooner you request one, the smaller the penalties.

In order to request your EIN, you can do it one of three ways.
  • You can go directly to the IRS website and request your EIN online
  • You can or call their EIN hotline at 1.800.829.4933, and request your EIN over the phone.
  • Or you can request your EIN through fax or postal mail.

If you don’t have time to get you EIN, or none of those options appeal to you. We have people who can take the reins and do it for you. Not to mention, they’re secure and affordable!

With our friends at Truck Services of North America, you can get your EIN without ever having to lift a finger. Since they specialize in permits, registrations, and helping truckers e-file for just about anything. Just give them a call at 803.386.0320 or email them at to get started.

If you’ve misplaced your EIN, we can help with that as well!

  1. If you’ve e-filed with us before, your EIN is stored in your account! Just login and view your business details, or a previously filed return and voila, you have your EIN.
  2. If you haven’t e-filed with us before, you can check with the bank or local/state institution you’ve applied for a license with. Both should have your EIN on record.
  3. Or you can always call the IRS hotline at 1.800.829.4933, and they’ll give you the EIN directly over the phone after verifying your identity.

But whatever you do, don’t wait! You need to request your EIN right away and before it’s too late for you to e-file on time. Don’t pay the IRS more than you have to!

If you need any help with the EIN or e-filing your 2290s, then our dedicated support legends are here for you. Just give them a call at 704.234.6005 or send them an email at for 24/hour support in English and Spanish. And they’ll help you e-file in a flash!

With only 4 days left you don’t have time to delay, so e-file today!

How to E-file Safely & Securely

When doing your taxes, security should be the first thing on your mind. And while ExpressTruckTax offers a safe, secure solution in order to e-file your taxes, you should be sure to go the extra mile to keep your own information secure.

ExpressTruckTax is and always will be secure, but to make sure you’re using our product to it’s fullest, here are some tips and tricks on how to be safe when e-filing.

Never Share Your Password

As a general rule of the internet, you shouldn’t share your password to anything with anyone. Giving someone access to private, personal information about your truck, your finances, and your taxes is a big no-no. So you should always keep your password to yourself.

If you need help, or have someone to file for you, make certain it’s someone you trust. Even then, your password should be your own. That’s why we have CPA accounts, so if you have an accountant who files for you, they can do so from their account

Never download files from unknown sources

If you don’t know the source, don’t download it! Downloading things from unknown sources puts you at risk. No matter what it is! Always make sure you’re on the right website, or you could risk getting a malware infection, and nobody wants that.

Since ExpressTruckTax uses secure servers and are McAfee Hackerproof, there’s never a risk when you e-file with us. And downloading documents from our website is secure too! So you never have to worry about a thing.

Reach our tax experts for instant assistance

If you need any assistance, or you’re having trouble with anything related to e-filing with us, we’ve got support! Our dedicated support team is here all year long to help you access files, access your account, and get ready for the new tax season. All you have to do is give them a call!

Staying safe online isn’t always easy, but with ExpressTruckTax, we promise to protect your information on our secure, hacker-proof servers. More info here.

If you need any help with the e-filing process, our dedicated support legends are here for you. All you have to do is give them a call at 704.234.6005 or send them an email at for 24/hour support in English and Spanish.

And remember, Trucking Nation, you only have 5 days left to e-file your HVUT without penalties!

#WellnessWednesday: Making Better Fast Food Choices on the Road

From McDonald’s to Starbucks, consuming fast food is a way of life when you’re on the road. Especially if you’re pressed for time, eating at a restaurant that offers speedy service may be your only way to have three meals a day.

But if you’re trying to eat healthy, having to eat fast food can seem like a nightmare. Especially when you consider how many health risks the trucking industry faces each year, because truckers consume tons of fast food on-the-go.

But there are healthier options out there for you. And they can even help you avoid things like diabetes and high blood pressure.  All you have to do is eat right.

At first finding healthier options at a fast food restaurant may sound like a myth, but there are several sandwiches, salads, and even tacos you can eat from various fast food menus and still be healthy! No matter what your favorite fast food restaurant is.

Here are 6 healthier options for truckers and travelers alike. So you can get your fast food fix without the excess calories.

No matter where you go, if you order the grilled option, chances are it’s a lot healthier than fried. Many places also offer salads with grilled chicken, but with the sandwiches, you get a less bulky and much more portable option for when you’re on the road. Not to mention there's the added benefit of the bread filling you up much faster than you would get with a salad.

With junior in the name it may sound small, but no matter where you go it’s definitely filling. In fact, junior cheeseburgers are a much better option compared to their giant counterparts. And you don’t feel overfull afterwards.  Just make sure you're not adding too many extras to your burger, and lose the fries.  Those can often be another 500+ calories you don't need.

Who says bacon can’t be healthy? Yes, you should definitely avoid any sandwich that has bacon with numerous beef patties, but a nice small bacon cheeseburger can definitely help you get that bacon fix.  And you don't have to feel guilty about it!  Just be sure to check the calories on your bacon cheeseburger before you decide.  But most fast food places have one for under 400 calories.

There's nothing healthier than a good old fashioned black coffee. There’s less calories, no sugar, and so much more of that much needed caffeine. So get your coffee fix the old fashioned way with a nice big cup o’joe.  You can also consider unsweetened hot tea for a zero calorie solution to getting caffeinated

Generally, the Americano only goes from 5-30 calories. Plus it’s a great source of caffeine and it tastes great. And if you’re not a big fan of drinking it black, adding a splash of nonfat milk will only increase the calories by 40, making this one of the healthiest options you can order. Other than black coffee, of course.

These crunchy chicken tacos are not only delicious, they’re also nutritious! And most of the time they only have a few calories, and we're talking 200 and less. You have to make sure to watch your sodium intake though, South Western cuisine can be a little heavy handed with the salt.

There are some foods you should always, always avoid eating when you go to a fast food restaurant. These foods are filled with more calories than you need, and while it might seem like a good idea at first, you’ll regret it later.

So you should also avoid fried sides and sugary menu items such as:
  • French Fries
  • Onion Rings
  • Any Dessert
  • Milkshakes
  • Soda

You should also avoid famous menu items at any fast food restaurant, because chances are that’ll be bad for you as well. And be wary of condiments. Adding extra can significantly increase the calories of your meal. So make sure you always know what you’re eating before you eat it. And pay attention to calories!

Got some tips for how to stay healthy on the road? Or maybe you just want to share some highlights from your own wellness journey. Drop us a line on Facebook or Twitter! We love hearing from you, Trucking Nation!

And remember you only have 6 days left to e-file your HVUT to avoid penalties!

Don't Get Rejected: Simple E-filing Mistakes to Avoid

Mistakes happen, especially on your taxes. But if you don’t take the time to learn from them, you’re doomed to repeat the same mistakes all over again.

And with just 8 days left to e-file before the deadline, you don’t have much room for error. That’s where we come in! Don’t get rejected, avoid these simple e-filing mistakes and make sure that the IRS will accept your return.

1. Incorrect EIN or VIN

The number one mistake you want to avoid is mixing up some numbers or letters in your EIN, or VIN. Now we know these numbers can be long, and sometimes hard to remember, but you should always check, double check, and triple check to make sure you’ve got it down correctly.

And you should also make sure you register you EIN right away! It takes the IRS up to two weeks in order to make your EIN active. So if you don’t have one yet, unfortunately it’s too late to get it and still e-file on time.

2. Computation Errors

Tax math can be complicated, but we’ve got an app for that! Not to mention, our automated system automatically calculates what you owe based on a few simple questions about your business and your vehicle. Don’t waste your time doing complicated tax math when we could do all the work for you.

3. Incorrect Filing Status or Filing Year

Sometimes dates and mileage can be tricky, but make sure you know your vehicle well enough to know how to file, and what year to file for.

Your filing status has a lot to do with your vehicle’s mileage. For instance, if you know you’ve travelled under the 5,000 mile limit (7,500 for agricultural vehicles), you should file your vehicle as suspended.

Then you need to make sure you’re selecting the correct year to file for. If you’re filing for the most recent tax year, you’ll select the 2015-16 tax year. We actually select it for you as you move through our program, to make things easier for you. So you only have to select a different filing year if you’re filing for a previous tax season.

4. Incorrect First-Used Month

While this error won’t necessarily get your return rejected, it will cause some issues when it comes time to get your new tags.

The HVUT tax year begins July 1st, which means for all renewals the first-used month is automatically July—even if you’re filing in August. The only time you would choose a later month is if you purchased your Heavy Vehicle after the beginning of the HVUT tax year. For example, if you purchased a new truck in September, that becomes your first-used month.

5. Duplicate Vehicle Information

You don’t want to enter in a single vehicle more than once. This mistake could cost you, literally! If you do accidentally enter your vehicle twice, you can easily remedy the situation by selecting the “remove” button located next to the duplicate vehicle.

So be vigilant, Trucking Nation, make sure you’re checking those returns twice, and thrice if you need to. Avoid errors at all costs, especially these common ones!

But if you find yourself unsure or if you have any questions, we’re here for you! We have a dedicated, year-round support team to help you succeed. So give them a call at 704.234.6005, or send them an email at for 24/hour support in English and Spanish!

#Wellness Wednesday: Taste the Rainbow

Managing your health on the road takes a lot of dedication and hard work, but the reward is definitely worth it.

Having to remember everything you can and shouldn’t eat may seem like a nightmare in the beginning, but always remember that it’s a safe bet to stick to fresh food, especially when it comes to snacking.

While fresh food and being on the road don’t seem to get along very well, choosing a variety of fruits and vegetables from the produce section will help you out in the long run. Plus fruits and vegetables are resilient, and can be kept unrefrigerated for a number of days.

But what exactly should you choose to begin your wellness journey? Well, Trucking Nation, it’s time for you to Taste the Rainbow.

Red fruits and vegetables are filled with antioxidants to help your body detox. The darker the red, the higher the antioxidant. Though, that goes for any dark colored fruit or vegetable.

Red Peppers - These peppers are red bell peppers, not to be confused with spicy red peppers that could do some serious harm your tastebuds. They’re great for snacking, and they’re filled with nutrients. Not to mention they’re a great healthy replacement for french fries. Red peppers can keep for 2 days unrefrigerated.

Baby tomatoes - Not only are baby tomatoes sweet, they’re also healthy! They keep for 2 days without being refrigerated, and they can replace other unhealthy snacks like tater tots.

Red Delicious Apples - An apple a day keeps the doctor away! And with apples, especially ones of the red delicious varieties, you get a crisp, sweet snack that will fill you up. Apples can keep for 2-4 weeks without being refrigerated.

Orange fruits are high in vitamin C and vitamin K, both of which are required for a good immune system, to fight off scurvy, and have healthy eyes to see the road.

Oranges - Oranges can keep for 2-3 weeks without being refrigerated. And they’re filled with vitamins to keep you healthy on the road. Plus, they offer a much needed boost to stay awake naturally, without having to drink energy drinks.

Orange peppers - Much like their red counterpart, orange peppers are also filled with antioxidants, but they have a light fruity taste. And the crunch and freshness will have you disowning chips in no time at all. They keep for 2 days without refrigeration.

Carrots - Carrots are filled the vitamin K, which is good for your hair, skin, and fingernails. Plus, they’re super healthy, and they taste great. If you’re not a fan of the harsh crunch of carrots you can drink carrot juice, which is just as good and super tasty. Carrots can last 2 days without refrigeration, and carrot juice only needs to be refrigerated after opening.

Yellow fruits and vegetables are sweet, sour, and mostly tropical. They also contain enzymes that can reduce the risk of severe illness, as well as help lower cholesterol.

Yellow peppers - These peppers are very similar to orange peppers with the same light fruity taste. Sliced, they pack a crunch that will have you coming back for more. Any type of colorful bell peppers can be the best snack when you’re on the road. They keep for 2 days unrefrigerated.

Bananas - Bananas are filled with vitamin B6 and potassium that can help you stay awake, and prevent painful cramping. Plus, they’re filled with fiber and vitamin C! Bananas are basically a pre-packaged super delicious superfruit. They can also last 2-7 days without being refrigerated.

Cucumbers - Cucumbers are filled with antioxidants and vitamin K to help your body detox, and keep your eyes, skin, and fingernails healthy. And if you slice them up with a little bit of salt, they’re just as good as potato chips. Cucumbers last 2 days without refrigeration. If you’ve sliced them, they will expire the same day.

Avocado - Avocados are a miracle fruit. Filled with fatty acids, antioxidants, fiber, and vitamin K, they’re super healthy for you, and they’re very filling. And with a consistency similar to ice cream, you can eat them with a spoon right out of the skin. Avocados last 3-4 days without refrigeration.

There are technically no blue or indigo fruits, even blueberries are considered purple. Which is why we’ve lumped the last three colors in the health rainbow together to give you some amazing antioxidant packed berries that make great snacks.

Blueberries - These tiny little berries are packed with antioxidants and vitamin K with little to no calories at all. And they taste great! Anything that can make you feel good and taste great at the same time is definitely worth a try. Blueberries last for 2-3 days without being refrigerated.

Blackberries - Blackberries are filled with vitamin C, fiber, and antioxidants. As a dark berry, they taste sweet, and contain a lot of much-needed nutrients. They last for 2-3 days unrefrigerated before expiring.

Grapes - Grapes have a low GI value, and can help with better insulin regulation, and blood sugar balance. Not to mention they improve skin health, heart health, and can aid people who are on calorie-restricted diets, or people who crave sugar but cannot have it. Grapes can last 3-5 days unrefrigerated.

You can still buy whole grain sandwiches, cheese, and pepperoni sticks, but when it comes to snacking you should definitely stay fresh and keep to the rainbow.

Got some tips for how to stay healthy on the road? Or maybe you just want to share some highlights from your own wellness journey. Drop us a line on Facebook or Twitter! We love hearing from you, Trucking Nation!

No Longer Operating a Heavy Vehicle: A Guide to the Final Return

If you’ve e-filed with us before, you may have noticed an option to select “Final Return” at the step where you enter your first-use-date and filing year. But what exactly does selecting “Final Return” mean?

In the past, selecting “final return” on your 2290 meant that you could no longer e-file your HVUT, but now the IRS wants you to select “Final Return” when you no longer have a vehicle to e-file for.

Whether your vehicle has been sold, stolen, or destroyed, if you no longer have a Heavy Vehicle to e-file for, you should choose “Final Return”. And in the event you find yourself with a new vehicle and able to file your HVUT again, all you have to do is e-file normally.

Where to Find “Final Return”

At the beginning of your return, after you enter your business information, and select your filing year, you’ll find an option to select “Final Return” at the bottom of the page.

Only select this option if you no longer have a vehicle to file for. If this is not your final return, simply file your return as normal.

Is It Any Different than Filing Normally?

Filing for your final return will be the same as filing from year to year, with the small difference of selecting “Final Return,” and adding a credit vehicle instead of a suspended or taxable vehicle.

Reporting Stolen, Sold, and Damaged Vehicles

When you file your return, there’s a whole section dedicated to credit vehicles. These are vehicles that were sold, traded in, lost, or destroyed during the tax year. If this is your final return, you’re only going to be entering a Credit Vehicle.

Once you get to the “Credit Vehicle” section of your return, simply add your vehicle information in the pop-up window. You will need to know your VIN, first-used month, gross-vehicle weight, and whether your vehicle was used for logging.

Then it’s time to indicate your “Loss Event.” These event reasons come in the form of a drop down menu and all you have to do is select the reason you no longer have your vehicle. Was it sold, destroyed, or stolen?

If the vehicle was sold, you will need the information of the person you sold it to in order to file your return. Then just add the date this event happened for that specific loss event, and move onto the next part of your return.

If you need any help with e-filing or have questions about when to select your final return, our dedicated support legends are here for you. Just give them a call at 704.234.6005 or send them an email at for 24/hour support in both English and Spanish.

The Countdown is On: Everything You Need to Know About Your Stamped Schedule 1

Getting your Stamped Schedule 1 is important. This proves to the DMV and the IRS that you are up-to-date on your Heavy Vehicle Use Taxes, and you are now able to renew the registration on your heavy vehicle.

Getting a Stamped Schedule 1 when you e-file is easy, but maybe you find yourself with a few questions along the way. Such as:

  • How can you tell if you really got the right document?
  • How do you get a Stamped Schedule 1?
  • How do you get a new one if you lost your previous copy?

Well we’ve got you covered, Trucking Nation! Here’s everything you’ve ever wanted to know about your Stamped Schedule 1.

The first and most important thing you need to know about your Stamped Schedule 1 is that it comes with a handy-dandy IRS e-filing watermark.

This watermark will be located very faintly in the middle of your Schedule 1 along with the date the IRS accepted your return. It should look like this:

Without this stamp, your return is invalid.

How do I get my Stamped Schedule 1?

Now that you know what it looks like, you may be wondering how you go about getting a Stamped Schedule 1. Well, there are a number of ways for you to receive your proof of filing:

  • The first way you can get your Stamped Schedule 1 is right after you file. When you file with ExpressTruckTax, we will automatically send it to you via email.
  • If you don’t want to receive your Stamped Schedule 1 by email, and you would like to have a paper copy, we can arrange that for you. We offer postal mail delivery of your Form 2290 along with your Stamped Schedule 1. All you have to do is select the option to receive your Stamped Schedule 1 by postal mail.
  • Finally, you can choose to receive your Stamped Schedule 1 by fax, and you can also have it faxed to as many numbers as you’d like. That means you can fax one to yourself, one to your carrier, and one to virtually anyone who needs that information about your heavy vehicle.

What Happens if I lose it?

  • In the case that you’ve lost, misplaced, or simply need another copy of your Stamped Schedule 1, retrieving it will be easy.
  • To retrieve another copy of your Stamped Schedule 1, all you have to do is login to your ExpressTruckTax account and you can view, and download your stamped Schedule 1 any time, right from your dashboard, for free!
  • And if you’ve already submitted your return, but you want to fax your Schedule 1 to yourself or someone else, that is also possible. And we can do it for free! All you have to do is head to your Dashboard, and enter the fax numbers of everyone you want to receive your Stamped Schedule 1. And that’s it!

It's a Celebration, Our Parent Company Has Made the INC 5000

We are truly humbled to have our parent company SPAN Enterprises rank 1150 in 2015 Inc. 5000 list of fastest-growing companies. We are also happy to report that SPAN is ranked #11 in the Charlotte Metro Area, and #1 in South Carolina for The Fastest-Growing Software Company in the entire state.

When we began our work in Rock Hill, SC, there were just 6 employees with a big dream. We didn’t feel like winners, not at first, but as we grew it became apparent that we really were so much bigger than we could have ever hoped for. Now we’ve gone from 6 to over 30 employees and several more products.

From ExpressTruckTax, an entire suite of e-filing products was born, including ExpressIFTA, ExpressExtension, ExpressTaxFilings, and Express990. And we’re still growing.

ExpressTruckTax began several years ago with a mission to make filing Heavy Vehicle Use Taxes easier. Not only do we provide a great product and superior customer service, we also maintain our position as a leader in the truck tax industry. We want nothing more than to make your truck tax experience as quick and painless as possible.

We’re so happy and passionate about bringing a product to the market that people love. In fact, we’ve brought several easy-to-use and well-loved products to the trucking industry, and we’re not going to stop anytime soon. We won’t sleep until we’ve made e-filing truck taxes, extensions, amendments, and more so easy they practically file themselves.

And unlike some of other truck tax and e-filing programs available on the market, we have a USA-Based support team that can answer your questions all year long. We believe wholeheartedly in creating jobs here in the states for people who need them, so we train our support team to be able to answer any question you throw at them–without having to read from a pre-written script.

And we do all of this from the small town of Rock Hill, South Carolina. We’re more than just a company, we’re more than just ExpressTruckTax, we’re a community. A community of tight-knit individuals who have come together to be a part of supporting truckers and the trucking industry.

While we’re still growing and getting better, we will still remain a small community at heart, which is one of the reasons why, after so many years, we have not raised our prices. We will still be the same legendary support team with the same small town values. We haven’t outgrown our town, and we never will. We will continue to bring jobs to the people of Rock Hill even as we grow bigger and bigger.

Without all of your love and support, we would have never made it this far. So thank you, Trucking Nation for supporting our dreams, and for supporting our product. We look forward to working and growing with you for many years to come.

Because we will never, ever forget where we started.

The Countdown is On: How to E-file for Farmers

It’s harvest time, Trucking Nation! And for more than just for crops. Your Heavy Vehicle Use Taxes are due on your agricultural vehicle by the end of the month.

So get ready to renew your tags, farmers! Because keeping your tags up-to-date and filing your HVUT on time is a great way to stay in the good graces of the IRS. And you need to file your 2290’s so you’ll able to renew your vehicle registration on time, or you could face serious consequences and penalties.

Filing for suspended, logging, or agricultural vehicles is a little bit different than filing for a taxable vehicle. Because Agricultural Vehicles get a larger allotment of mileage before they are considered taxable and not suspended vehicles. For example, regular taxable vehicles have a 5,000 mile limit before they are no longer considered suspended, while agricultural vehicles have a 7,500 mile limit.

While the difference in how you file isn’t anything extreme, we’ve got a handy dandy guide to show you how to file specifically for agricultural vehicles.
How to File for Agricultural Vehicles

When e-filing for agricultural vehicles, simply follow the same three easy steps as usual, but with a slight twist when entering your vehicle information.

Step 1: Account Setup

  • If you already have an account with us, all you have to do is login.
  • However, if you’ve never created an account with us before, then go ahead and select “Create Account," and then enter your email address and a password of your choosing to get started.
    • Pro-tip #1: To save time, you can also choose to login with your Google Account, or Facebook Account.
  • Next, enter your business details. Including your EIN, business name, and signing authority.
  • Select “File for Current Tax Year,” and then finally, click “Next” to move on to vehicle details.

Step 2: Vehicle Details

  • This is where you all all of your vehicle information. If you’re a returning user, chances are you have some vehicles saved in Truck Zone.
  • But if you’re a new user, you have some choices on how to upload your new vehicle information. You can enter the vehicles one-by-one manually, or you can use an excel file.
  • Remember to choose the right section for your vehicle. Since you are using agricultural and farming equipment, your vehicle may be classified under suspended if you’re under 7,500 miles for the tax year.

  • If this is the case, skip the taxable vehicle section and choose to add your vehicle under suspended instead.
  • If your vehicle has gone over the mileage limit, simply add your truck under “Taxable Vehicles” and move on to the next step.

Step 3: Transmit

  • Next, review your details and make certain everything is correct. Our system will also review your information for you, just in case.
  • And finally, you can securely transmit your return to the IRS, and get your Stamped Schedule 1 back via email in minutes.

That’s it! It really is that simple. Three tiny steps that are imperative for staying compliant and renewing your vehicle registration come tax season.

If you need any help along the way, just ask our dedicated support legends! You can give them a call at 704.234.6005 during our new extended business hours from 8AM to 8PM EST, or you can shoot them an email at for 24/hour support in English and Spanish.

What to Know Before You Choose an E-file Provider

Sometimes finding an e-file provider can be difficult. With all the scams out there, it’s hard to know who you can trust. But there are a few simple rules you can follow in order to make sure you’re e-filing safely and efficiently.

When looking for an e-file provider, the checklist below can really help you find one that’s right for you. Make sure they follow all the rules listed, and if they don’t, find one that does so you can get your e-filing done in a way that’s best for you.

Here’s the checklist your e-file provider should follow:

Is Your E-file Provider Authorized by the IRS?

First of all, the e-file provider should be IRS authorized. The easiest way to find out whether her not they’re authorized is to check the IRS website. Here at ExpressTruckTax, we have an excellent relationship with the IRS.

In fact, our programmers have years of experience building back-end systems for them. And we still work closely with the IRS to make sure our software reflects the most current e-filing requirements. We definitely go above and beyond as an authorized e-filer.

How Do They Send Your Return to the IRS?

The next step is to know how your e-file provider sends your return to the IRS. Do they mail it? Send it directly? How does it get from point A to point B for successful e-filing?

At ExpressTruckTax, we securely transmit your HVUT to the IRS for you. That way there are no long wait times for snail mail. Plus, the whole process is secure, and you can rest assured your information is in the right hands.

How Do You Get Your Stamped Schedule 1?

Getting your Stamped Schedule 1 is important. You need this as proof of filing so you can renew your heavy vehicle registration until the next tax year. So you need to know how your e-file provider will transmit this form to you. Will they mail it, or will they send it automatically?

With ExpressTruckTax, you will get your Stamped Schedule 1 through your e-mail immediately! You can even have us e-mail it to your carrier as well. Plus we can fax it, and send you a notification via text when it is received. And to top it all off, if you need it sent by USPS, we can do that too!

Make sure your e-file provider has more than one option for you to receive your Stamped Schedule 1, because they should be working for you and not the other way around.

Does The E-file Provider Offer USA-Based Support?

You definitely want your e-file provider to offer US-Based support. This is important because that means they’ve taken the time to train their employees so they can answer any of your HVUT questions!

At ExpressTruckTax, our support team is legendary. They’re here all year round to help you. We don’t believe in “seasonal support,” we believe in having people who can answer your questions about HVUT from tax season to tax season.

And to make things even easier, we offer 24/7 emergency email support. And you can get support in two languages: English and Spanish, during our new extended business hours from 8AM to 8PM EST.

As you can tell, we are proud to say that ExpressTruckTax is one of the e-file providers that has every requirement on this list. And we’re leaders in the e-file industry to boot, partnered with some of the largest trucking associations and companies in the nation.

If you need any help with the e-file process, then our dedicated support legends are always here for you. All you have to do is give them a call at 704.234.6005 or send them email at for 24 hour support in English and Spanish.

And remember there’s only 25 days left to e-file before penalties. So don’t delay, e-file today!

#WellnessWednesday: 4 Stretches to Eliminate Back Pain

Bad backs and poor circulation are one of the most common health concerns facing truckers. It’s understandable, you sit in a cab for several hours with limited movement, watching the road like a hawk.

But since it’s #WellnessWednesday, today isn’t about what you can’t do, it’s about what you can do to fight the pain and restore circulation!

Driving trucks isn’t easy, but these 4 simple back stretches definitely are. And they could save a life, and your back! So here’s how to do some quick back stretches to help you avoid back, leg, and neck pain.

Back Bends

Back bends will really help you with decompressing your spine and fluid buildup that can happen in your back after sitting for long periods of time. It might sound a little scary, but this simple stretch will help you avoid any sort of complications.

All you have to do is put your hands on your hips behind your back, leaning backwards, and holding for 5-10 seconds. Then you should repeat that 5 more times, and that’s it! You’ve successfully helped your body eliminate future back pain.

Front Bends

Front bends are important because they help you loosen your hamstrings and increase circulation to your legs. Good leg circulation is crucial for good driving, good posture, as well as good health. And all it takes is this simple stretch to maintain some great circulation!

All you have to do is put your hands on your hips, just like the back bend, and lean forward. If you’re feeling up to it, you can also combine it with the back bends for a full range of motion. Remember to hold the stretch for 5-10 seconds, and do it 5 times, while breathing in and out like normal. You don’t want to hold your breath while doing stretches. Your body needs the oxygen to repair itself.

Then voila, you’re successfully helping to avoid both back pain and poor circulation!

Knee Up’s

Knee up’s may seem a little difficult at first, but in the long run they’re worth it. Much like the front bends, they help restore circulation to your legs. They also really help you loosen up and stretch your lower abdomen, which can be difficult to stretch otherwise.

All you have to do is use the side of your truck, and place your hands shoulder width apart, taking turns to bring each knee up. Then you should turn your knee to the side, stretching it across your body.

These knee stretches will make you feel much better very quickly. You’ll also feel a lot looser, and much more flexible. So do as many as you can and try to hold the stretch for 10-20 seconds.

At first it might seem a little difficult, but in the end it’ll be rewarding, I promise! Don’t worry if you can only do a few at first. Wellness is a journey, not a destination.

Neck Stretch

The next stretch will give you some much-needed relief from the tension that builds around your shoulders and neck.

All you have to do is start with one hand down by your side, with your other hand out at a 90 degree angle. Then just lean your head to the opposite side of your outstretched arm. Try to reach out as far as you can with said arm.

Make sure you don’t let your arm drop, keep it outstretched as far as you can for 5-10 seconds. Then do 5 reps and you’ll really begin to feel loosened up, and so much less tension!

Then all you have to do is keep up with these stretches. Even doing them once or twice a week can greatly improve your mobility. And it can combat the pain of being sedentary for long periods of time! All in under 5 minutes.

Got some tips for how to stay healthy on the road? Or maybe you just want to share some highlights from your own wellness journey. Drop us a line on Facebook or Twitter! We love hearing from you, Trucking Nation!

The Countdown is On: Form 2290 Bootcamp

We interrupt your regularly scheduled #TruckTechTuesday, to bring you 2290 bootcamp!

We know you must have questions, and we’ve got the answers. Here’s everything you’ve ever wondered about HVUT, broken down into one easy read. Because that’s what ExpressTruckTax is all about, making things easier for the trucking industry!

What is Form 2290?

IRS Form 2290 with Schedule 1 is a tax form that must be filed each year for all taxable highway vehicles that are registered, or required to be registered in your name under state, District of Columbia, Canadian, or Mexican law.

That means if you own a heavy vehicle, a vehicle that has a taxable gross weight of 55,000 pounds or more, or have one registered in your name in the US, District of Columbia, Canada, or Mexico, you need to file Form 2290 and pay the excise tax every year!

When to File

You need to file your 2290 every year beginning in July. The regular HVUT tax year begins on July 1 and ends the following June. But tax for the year is due during the renewal period, which is typically from July 1st to August 31st of each year, giving you two whole months to e-file.

However, if you purchase a new vehicle during the tax year, then your HVUT is due the month after you purchase a new vehicle. Meaning if you purchased your vehicle in August, your HVUT would be due September 31.

When Is the Deadline?

The 2290 deadline to file for renewals is on August 31, every year. This means you now have less than a month to e-file! However, if you purchased your vehicle later during the tax year, your first-used month and your tax due date will be different.

You have a month to file after you purchase your new vehicle, for example, if you purchase your vehicle in October, your taxes are due at the end of November or you will face penalties.

However, it is better to e-file right away. That way you can have your taxes filed and out of the way until the next tax year, and you don’t have to worry about missing any deadlines and getting penalized for it.

When Do I Need to Renew?

You need to renew your HVUT every year during the renewal period. If you wait to file, you risk facing some pretty hefty penalties for not filing. That and you can’t renew your vehicle registration with the DMV.

Is This a State Tax?

No, unlike IFTA, HVUT it is a federally-mandated tax. As stated previously, if you have a heavy vehicle registered, or required to be registered in your name in North America, and Mexico, you are required to file yearly Heavy Vehicle Use Taxes.

If you have any more questions about the 2290 and how to file, our dedicated support legends are here for you! So give us a call at 704.234.6005 during our new extended business hours from 8AM to 8PM EST. Or you can send them an email at for 24/hour support in English and Spanish.
