Your HVUT Form 2290 Is Due Today

0
Did you notice that alarm going off in the back of your mind? That’s totally normal, don’t worry about it. It simply means that the Heavy Vehicle Use Tax Form 2290 deadline is here. Wait what?! Actually, you may need to get moving a little, because today, August 31, is your last day to file without facing major penalties.

So, take a deep breath, relax, and head to ExpressTruckTax to knock out your Form 2290 in a matter of minutes. The process is quick and easy, so you don’t need to panic or feel the need to rush. Go ahead and file right now so you can get back to focusing on the road.

The HVUT Form 2290 Deadline Is Here

You need to file your Form 2290 today or you could be subject to major penalties. For example, the penalty for failing to file by the deadline is 4.5% of the total tax due, assessed on a monthly basis for up to five months. If you file late and fail to make a HVUT payment by the deadline you’ll also face a monthly fee of .5% of the total tax you owe. Plus, an additional interest charge of .54% will also accrue.

If you think that amount doesn’t seem like much, think again! If you originally owed the IRS $550 then that amount would climb to $700 by the end of the five-month delinquency period. Plus, some states suspend vehicle registrations until proof of your HVUT payment can be provided.

That’s why it’s super important to file by the deadline. By filing with ExpressTruckTax you will get a copy of your stamped Schedule 1 via email within 15 minutes of filing. You can also choose to have it faxed or mailed to you.

Your stamped Schedule 1 serves as your proof of HVUT payment, so you really need it. Plus, it’s required by the DMV to register new heavy vehicles and to renew your tags. Without it, you won’t be legally operating your truck!

Enough chit chat, you know you have to file, so here’s how you do it. Head to ExpressTruckTax.com and follow their step-by-step guide in order to instantly complete your form. The instructions will tell you what information needs to go where.

If you’re out on the road, you don’t need to find a computer or an IRS office to file. Simply download the ExpressTruckTax mobile app on your smartphone or tablet. This way you can file from any location from the comfort of your own cab.

Don’t forget about the easiest way to file with TSNAmerica. All you have to do is call them at 803.386.0320 and one of their US-based representatives will file for you, over the phone. With 1 fast call, you’ll complete your Form 2290 and then receive a copy of your stamped Schedule 1 via email.

HVUT Form 2290 Is Due Tomorrow, File NOW!

0
HVUT Form 2290 Deadline
Whoa, it’s time to get moving! Your Heavy Vehicle Use Tax (HVUT) Form 2290 is due tomorrow, by August 31 at midnight. The deadline is here! That means you’re literally running out of time to file without facing major penalties.

We know this puts you in quite a state of urgency, but stay calm. You can file Form 2290 in a matter of minutes with ExpressTruckTax. Plus, to help you file even faster we have put together a list of frequently asked questions and provided the answers.

HVUT Form 2290 FAQs

1. What is my first use month?

Your first use month is literally the first month that you use your heavy vehicle during the tax period. The current HVUT period runs from July 1, 2017 to June 30, 2018 and form 2290 is due based off of your first use month.

To be specific, it’s due by the last day of the month following your first use month. Because most truckers use their trucks in July, it’s their first use month and that makes August 31st their deadline day. However, if you don’t use your truck until October then your Form 2290 wouldn’t be due until the last day of November.

2. Can I pay the amount of HVUT I owe with a credit card?

Unfortunately, no. You can not pay the amount of HVUT you owe with a credit card because the IRS doesn’t accept credit cards.

One option is to pay with direct debit or electronic fund withdrawal, by authorizing the IRS to debit the amount you owe from your bank account. In order to do this, you will need to provide your bank account and routing number which can be found on one of your checks.

Or you can also pay with the Electronic Federal Tax Payment System, where you will create a free account with www.ettps.gov. The amount you owe will be debited from your bank account, but it could take up to 10 days to create your account.

You will need to schedule your payment within your account. You need to schedule at least by 8 PM the day before the deadline to give the IRS enough time to debit the funds from your account.

If you want to, you can mail the amount you owe directly to the IRS with a check or money order. Just print your completed 2290-V (your payment voucher) from page 11 of your completed 2290 form and mail it with your payment.

You only have 2 days left to file!
3. What is an EIN?

Your EIN is your Employer Identification Number, and it’s used to identify a business entity. To complete Form 2290 you need an EIN and can apply for one online with the IRS. If you already have an EIN it can be found on a previous stamped Schedule 1.

You can not use your Social Security Number in place of your EIN on HVUT Form 2290. If you use your SSN instead of your EIN your form will be rejected. If you need an EIN you better hop to it because it takes about 14 days for your EIN to become active in the IRS’s system and your form could get rejected during that time.

4. How Do I file?

It’s easy! Head to ExpressTruckTax.com and follow the step-by-step e-filing guide to complete your form in 5 minutes or less. As a result, you will receive a copy of your stamped Schedule 1 within 15 minutes via email.

Are you out on a trip without access to a computer? Then download the ExpressTruckTax mobile app to your smartphone or tablet to file at any time, from any location. ExpresstruckTax is just as mobile as you are!

Or you could call TSNAmerica at 803.386.0320 to have a local, US-based representative file for you over the phone. It’s the quickest and most convenient way to file, all you have to do is answer a few questions to complete your Form 2290. After you finish filing a copy of your stamped Schedule 1 will be sent to your email.

Are You Helping With Hurricane Harvey Disaster Relief?

0
Hurricane Flooding In Texas
Hurricane Harvey came in pretty strong as a category 4 storm to leave a major impact on Texas as the biggest storm in history to ever hit the state. Over 11 trillion gallons of water have fallen on the state, and it’s not over. More rain will be expected to hit the area and the neighboring state of Louisiana.

Some areas have already received 30 inches of rain, but Harvey may re-strengthen so residents can expect to face 15 to 25 more inches of rain through Friday, causing the flooding situation to become much worse. If you are helping with the rescue and relief effort, thank you for your hard work and time. Don’t drive towards affected areas unprepared, know what to expect.

Helping With Hurricane Harvey Relief Efforts

First of all, Texas and Louisiana have both declared states of emergency, and as a result, a few driver regulations have been suspended, including hours of service. You can put in the time you need to help those in need. However, be safe, Don’t drive tired, remember to take breaks.

Drivers exempted from hours of service and other regulations include anyone traveling into or out of the state to transport supplies, people, or equipment, and those providing any emergency assistance to those affected by Harvey.

Routing to the affected areas may be tricky. Tons of roads are closed due to flooding, including 350 areas in Houston alone, so you may need to bust out a map to figure out where you’re going. Your GPS may not provide reliable information about which roads are closed or unusable.

Even though relief loads may offer more pay, there are a few things to consider before heading out. You and other trucks might be waiting around at relief sites for a very long time because people may not know what to tell you to do or where you need to go.

Hurricane Flood Water In Texas
Driving to these areas could be dangerous. You will need to be prepared with bottled water and packaged food for yourself. You will also need your own bathroom supplies, because there may not be a good place to stop and go for a long time. Be sure to keep your fuel topped off, because you may not have access to fuel later.

Speaking of fuel, expect prices to rise all across the nation. Texas’s crude refinery that can produce 1 million barrels a day has been shut down. Gas has already shot up by 10 cents, but that number could triple.

Flood zones are wet, and the extra rain will make it worse, so take supplies to keep yourself warm and dry. Bring a raincoat, rubber boots or bibs, with a poncho, and insulate underneath. Also, be sure to have a flashlight, batteries, matches, and other emergency items with you as well.

Don’t test the limits of your truck, avoid driving through flood water. Just turn around, don’t drown. Luckily there have been rescuers nearby to help pull stranded truckers out of their cabs to get them to safety so far.

Our Hearts Go Out To Texas And Louisiana

We are praying for those in Texas. If you’re helping with the relief effort thank you for your time and determination. Stay safe out there. If you need to take refuge head to the Kay Bailey Hutchinson Convention Center, where GATS (The Great American Trucking Show) was held. All those fleeing flood zones and disaster areas can seek shelter there.

Please share any information about the  Hurricane Harvey relief efforts in the comment section below and for more trucking blogs visit ExpressTruckTax.com.

Now that doesn’t have to ruin your good time because you can actually file your Form 2290 with the ExpressTruckTax app while you’re at GATS and the entire process only takes a few minutes to complete. You can file while you wait in line for food, while judges vote on show truck winners, or simply while you sit down to take a break.

How To File Form 2290 With The ExpressTruckTax App?

First, you will download the app to your smartphone or tablet and create a free ExpressTruckTax account with your email address. Then you can start the e-filing process which only takes about five minutes to complete.

You will begin the filing process by entering your business information such as the name, address, and your EIN (Employer Identification Number). If you’re a sole proprietor you can use your personal information, but you still need an EIN. Your Social Security Number will not work in place of your EIN.

Then you will select your tax year and first use month. The current HVUT tax period began on July 1, 2017 and will end on June 31, 2018. Form 2990 is due based off of your first use month, and the deadline is due the last day of the month following the first use month. Most truckers use their trucks in July, making it their first use month, so their Form 2290 is due on August 31st.

Next, you will enter your vehicle information, including the taxable gross weight and VIN (Vehicle Identification Number). Be sure to select if your vehicles were used for any special purposes such as agricultural use or logging because those vehicles are subject to lower tax rate. Also, remember that you’re required to include your suspended vehicles on your Form 2290.

E-File HVUT Form 2290 app
After that, ExpressTruckTax will automatically calculate the amount of HVUT you owe for you, so don’t worry about having to handle any complicated calculations yourself. You can pay the amount you owe to the IRS through direct debit or electronic funds withdrawal, EFTPS, or check or money order.

Then you will be presented with a summary of your information so you can make sure you entered everything correctly. Make sure your VIN, business information, and EIN were entered correctly. ExpresstruckTax will also perform an internal audit on your form to catch any basic errors.

Finally, your filing process is complete and you can sign your form with a 5-digit code of your choice at the bottom of the page to transmit it directly to the IRS. Then within about 15 minutes, you will receive a copy of your stamped Schedule 1 via email.

For an even easier and faster way to file call TSNAmerica at 803.386.0320 to have a HVUT expert file for you over the phone. All you have to do is spend a few minutes on the phone and answer a few questions to instantly file your Form 2290. Then you will receive a copy of your stamped Schedule 1 via email.

Your HVUT Form 2290 is Due Next Thursday

0
Heavy Vehicle Use Tax Form 2290
What’s on your mind? The fact that it’s pretty hot and humid at this point during the summer, the fact that Labor Day is almost here to enjoy, or the fact that your Heavy Vehicle Use Tax (HVUT) Form 2290 is due by next Thursday, on August 31st?

If your mind isn’t on the deadline, then it should be, for at least 5 minutes, because that’s all it takes to quickly and conveniently file your Form 2290 with ExpressTruckTax in order to receive a copy of your stamped Schedule 1 via email within about 15 minutes, depending on IRS volume. Also, so you can become a HVUT expert we have put together a list of HVUT facts.

All About The HVUT

So what exactly is the HVUT? It is the tax assessed on the use of public highways by heavy vehicles with gross weights of 55,000 pounds or more. The taxes collected are used to repair, maintain, and build public highways.

You must file HVUT Form 2290 for every taxable highway motor vehicle that is required to be registered in your name under state, District of Columbia, Canadian, or Mexican law at the time of its first use period.

A taxable highway motor vehicle is one with a taxable gross weight of 55,000 pounds or more and includes any self-propelled vehicle designed to carry loads over public highways, regardless if it’s designed to perform other functions. A taxable vehicle consists of a chassis or a chassis and a body but does not include the load.

E-filing App For Form 2290 HVUT
The current HVUT tax period began on July 1, 2017, and will end on June 30, 2018. The HVUT is based on your first use month and is due by the last day of the month following the first use month. For example, if you first use your truck in October then your Form 2290 will be due by November 30th. Because a majority of truckers first use their trucks in July, the last day of the following month, which is August 31st is a huge deadline day.

As a result of filing your Form 2290, you will get a copy of your stamped Schedule 1 which serves as your proof of payment. It actually has a digital watermark stamp that includes the time that the IRS approved and accepted your Form 2290. Your stamped Schedule 1 is very important because you need it to register new vehicles and to renew your vehicle tags. Without it, you will be operating illegally.

Luckily filing Form 2290 is extremely easy and some of your information can be found on previous stamped Schedule 1s. All you need to file is your business name, address, and EIN (Employer Identification Number). For your vehicles, you need the VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) and taxable gross weight.

How to E-File Form 2290?

You can actually file Form 2290 in 5 minutes or less with ExpressTruckTax. Simply head to ExpressTruckTax.com or download the ExpressTruckTax app to your smartphone or tablet and follow the step-by-step e-filing guide to instantly complete your Form 2290. Then you will receive a copy of your stamped Schedule 1 via email within about 15 minutes.

For an even easier way to file call TSNAmerica at 803.386.0320 to have a US-based representative file for you. All you have to do is answer a few questions during a short phone call, then your filing process will be complete and you will receive your stamped Schedule 1 via email.

Are You Participating In A Day Without Truckers?

0

The trucking community is full of hardworking men and women who dedicate a majority of their time to the road in order to deliver goods all across the nation. As a result, our economy keeps moving. Without truckers, everything would come to a screeching halt.

Everything around you, your coffee mug, clothes, snack, and more were most likely on a truck at some point. If you like being able to go into a convenience store to pick up a drink or a pack of gum then thank a trucker.

People don’t realize how hard truckers work, and how dangerous of a job it is. Aside from the traffic danger and health risks, drivers also face murder. During the past decade, over 500 transportation professionals have been murdered. That’s why Trucker Lives Matter (TML) has created the event. ‘A Day Without Truckers’ on September 5th to spread awareness.

A Day Without Truckers

A Day Without Truckers is an event that will be held in front of the U.S. Capitol where all truckers are invited to gather to and ride in a memorial procession in memory of their fellow truckers who have been murdered. Those who cannot make it to Washington for the event are encouraged to shut down for the day. Also, everyone participating will be wearing all black.

Hundreds of truckers are expected to peacefully attend this event on September 5th, which is the first day back to work after Labor Day to bring awareness to the gun violence directed towards truckers and how they need self-defense and gun rights.

TLM has evolved from the equal protection bill named for Michael Boeglin, a trucker who after being murdered was burned in his trunk in Detroit during June 2014. TLM is working towards allowing every American to legally carry guns across state lines, which is quite the goal to have.

As of right now, truckers, as well as everyone else, cannot legally carry a gun across state lines even if they have concealed carry licenses and permits unless the states that the individual is traveling to and from have an official agreement.

Recently, Keith Odom was shot. The 49-year-old trucker from Tennessee was the victim of a random robbery at 8 AM in Baton Rouge on August 8th. He pulled over to repair a tire and was robbed of his belongings. He was shot even though he complied with the robber. Aside from being robbed of their personal belonging truckers face the dangers of cargo theft and road rage.

To deter people who want to cause you harm, park in well-lit areas, always be aware of your surroundings, stay calm, and have someone monitor your truck from dispatch. It also helps to park in areas with surveillance.

Stay Safe Out There

Whether you are participating in A Day Without Truckers, shutting down for the day, or simply wearing all black, be sure to remain alert and stay safe. We want to thank you for all of your hard work you do all across the nation and our hearts go out to those who have lost their lives.

For more trucking blogs visit ExpressTruckTax.com and please share your thoughts about A Day Without Truckers in the comment section below.

Forget to File Form 2290? You're Going to Face Penalties!

0
The clock is seriously ticking! Every time a moment passes then we are getting even closer to the
Heavy Vehicle Use Tax (HVUT) deadline on August 31st. You still have about two weeks to file, but don't wait. You should still file as soon as you can.

If you run into errors and your form gets rejected then you will be responsible for correcting your form and retransmitting it by the deadline. If your Form 2290 or HVUT payment is late you will have a few penalties to face.

HVUT Penalties

You may not receive a penalty for filing your return or paying the amount of HVUT tax you owe by the deadline if you are able to show reasonable cause for not filing or paying on time. If your file after the deadline be sure to attach an explanation to your return to show reasonable cause. The reasonable cause may then be accepted or rejected by the IRS.

Now the penalty for failing to file your HVUT IRS Form 2290 by the August 31 deadline is equal to 4.5% of the total tax due, and this penalty will accrue on a monthly basis for up to five months. The penalty for not making a HVUT payment is a monthly fee of .5% of the total tax due. You will also face an additional interest charge of .54% per month. This penalty can make the amount you owe increase pretty quickly.

Note: There are also penalties for filing fraudulent or false returns.

In addition to these federal penalties, your state may suspend your vehicle registration until you can provide proof of your HVUT payment. Your stamped Schedule 1 serves as your proof of payment, and you receive it by filing Form 2290. You need a stamped Schedule 1 to renew your tags and register new vehicles. Without it, you will be operating illegally.

How to File HVUT Form 2290?

Now that you know you really need to file your HVUT Form 2290 by the deadline, don’t panic. You can quickly and conveniently file right now by heading to ExpressTruckTax.com or by using the ExpressTruckTax App on your smartphone or tablet. All you have to do is follow the e-filing guide.

Either on the site or app, you will create your free ExpressTruckTax account with your email address. Then you will enter your business information like the name, address, and EIN (Employer Identification Number). Sole proprietors may use their personal information.

Then you will enter your tax year and first used month before entering your vehicle information, including the VIN (vehicle Identification Number) and the taxable gross weight. This is also where you will select if your vehicle was used for any special purposes such as logging, or agricultural use. Remember to include any suspended vehicles.

penalties for filing HUVT Form 2290 late
Next, we will accurately calculate how much HVUT you owe for you. Then you can directly pay that amount to the IRS through direct debit or electronic funds withdrawal, EFTPS, or check or money order.

After that, we will perform a basic audit check on your form to catch any basic errors. Also, we will present you with a summary of your information so you can make sure all of your information has been entered correctly. Once any corrections have been made you can sign your form with a 5-digit number of your choice, pay for it, and transmit it directly to the IRS.

Last but not least, you will receive a copy of your stamped Schedule 1 via email, within about 15 minutes of transmitting it. You can also elect to have it faxed, texted, or mailed anywhere it needs to go.

For an even easier way to file call TSNAmerica at 803.386.0320 to have one of their HVUT 2290 experts file for you, over the phone. With one quick call you will have your form filed and you will receive a copy of your stamped Schedule 1 via email.

The Total Eclipse Will Totally Stop Traffic

0
The Total Solar Eclipse Traffic Nightmare
The total eclipse/traffic nightmare
If you haven’t already heard you should be aware that a major total eclipse will occur on Monday, August 21st, that will make areas of 12 different states in its path become completely dark for about 2 minutes and 30 seconds. This will happen around 2:43 PM EST in Columbia, SC.

Now, this is a historic event because it’s the first total eclipse from coast to coast since 1918. An entire generation has lived and passed without witnessing an event like this, and it’s the first total eclipse since the interstate system was even created. So, what can you expect traffic to be like?

Solar Eclipse Traffic

Schools and businesses are allowing people to take the day off in order to travel and see the eclipse. Meaning millions of people from all across the nation will be traveling to the 12 states where the total eclipse can be witnessed. You should expect major congestion and a few stand still traffic jams.

If you’ll be out on the road that day be prepared. Top of your fuel and give yourself enough time to account for the influx of traffic. Remember when extra people are on the road more wrecks occur, so slow downs and delays can be expected. Some major roads will actually be closed, like Interstate 57 corridor in Illinois for example.

The 12 states where you can see the total eclipse include:
An example of a traffic jam expected to be caused by the total eclipse.

Oregon
Idaho
Wyoming
Nebraska
Kansas
Missouri
Illinois
Kentucky
Tennessee
North Carolina
South Carolina
Georgia

Some people will plan ahead and make a trip out of this event and find a place to stay overnight to enjoy the eclipse the next day, but others will hop in their car for a spur of the moment journey. If they travel the day of the eclipse they will avoid having to pay for a hotel and taking extra time off work.

Also, if people are in traffic during this event they may whip out their phones to try and snap pictures on their phones. This will be a major cause of distracted driving and could result in accidents. Even though parking on the shoulder is illegal, people are expected to pull off on the side of the road to watch the event, which could result in even more accidents.

Plus, the sky will go completely dark in the path of the eclipse. We hope that people remember to turn their lights on if they are driving during it, but they may not. Watch out for yourself and others. Have your lights on auto or remember to turn them on to see other drivers on the road.

State troopers from all across the country will be out looking for dangerous drivers to keep the roads safe, so be sure to be on your best driving behavior. Don’t follow other vehicles too closely, speed, or drive distracted to avoid getting pulled.

If you want to view the eclipse we recommend finding a truck stop on your route and giving yourself enough time to make it there and park before it starts. Parking on the side of the road could be dangerous and is not advised. You could also take the day off and travel with your family to see it since it will be a once and lifetime beautiful event. We hope it doesn’t get rained out.

However, if you don’t care about the eclipse and don’t want to deal with the hassle of travelers we recommend sticking to the back roads to avoid traffic. Also, check your route in advance to avoid closed roads. Don’t let extra mass of other drivers rial you up with road rage, stay calm and keep on truckin’.

Enjoy The Eclipse

Whether you will be participating in another hard day’s work or taking the time to enjoy the eclipse remember to drive extra safely and prepare for hordes of traffic. This is a major event that millions will flock to from coast to coast.

For more trucking blogs visit ExpressTruckTax.com and please share your thoughts about the eclipse and potential traffic in the comment section below.

You need an EIN or Employer Identification Number to complete your Form 2290. There’s no way around it. Once you place your SSN in place of your EIN on your form then it will instantly be rejected.

If you need an EIN go apply for one with the IRS now because it takes about two weeks for them to become updated in the IRS’s system and your form can get rejected during that time. Even though you’ll get your EIN instantly when you apply for one, you have to wait for it to become active before you can file.

You also need to make sure that your business information matches the information that you have on file for your EIN with the IRS. If they don’t match then your form could get rejected. You can verify your information with the IRS by calling 1-888-829-4933.

Your Form is a Duplicate

Each VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) can only be filed for once during the HVUT tax period. Duplicates will be rejected, so make sure that you’re filing for the current tax period which runs from July 1st, 2017 to June 30th, 2018. If you accidentally filed for the previous tax period then that could be why your form is considered a duplicate.

You also need to make sure that you enter your VIN correctly. If it’s one character off then your form could get rejected. If your form is rejected for this reason don’t panic, you can quickly and easily file free VIN corrections with ExpressTruckTax.

RTN Errors

You can pay the amount of HVUT you owe to the IRS through direct debit or electronic funds withdrawal, and that process involves providing your bank account number and RTN (Routing Transfer Number).

If you enter this information with as little as one character off the IRS will not be able to debit the funds and your form will be rejected. This is also the case if you do not have enough funds in your account to cover the full amount.

Enter your information, which can be found on one of your checks correctly. If your form is rejected for the incorrect RTN or insufficient funds simply edit your form and retransmit it or choose a different payment method.

Join Rigs Without Cigs

0
In some cases trucker health could really be improved. The industry is full of dedicated, hard working men and women that are plagued with conditions like high blood pressure, chronic back pain, sleep deprivation, diabetes, and more. While there are tons of articles and support for healthier eating and trucker exercises emerging, one aspect of poor health that often gets overlooked is smoking.

That’s why the St. Christopher Trucking Fund is doing their part to invite all smokers to join Rigs Without Cigs.

Rigs Without Cigs

Rigs Without Cigs is a year long program sponsored by the St.Christopher Truckers Fund and a few other enthusiastic drivers to bring awareness to the trucking community about smoking and to provide tips and support to help finally gain their freedom back from the deadly habit.

You can preregister for the program now, and it starts on September 1st, 2017 and ends on August 31st, 2018. When you sign up you will complete an online questionnaire and then you’ll receive tips on how to quit nicotine, along with encouragement and accountability on a weekly basis through a network of support from fellow drivers. You can join at the beginning of each quarter of the year and continue the program during the year.

While the St. Christopher Trucking Fund will provide you with information about how nicotine addiction works, smoking triggers, smoking aids, and alternative therapy options, it's highly recommended that each participant receives an individual consultation with a doctor to determine the best method of treatment.

You will not be alone on this quest to stop smoking. You can encourage your friends, family, and fleet members to quit with you and you will have the support of other drivers. Also, there will be quarterly conference calls with Dr. John McElligott so you and all participants can discuss progress and find the answers to any questions that you may have.

If you sign up for Rigs Without Cigs at GATS, The Great American Trucking Show in Dallas, TX you will receive a gift and a free doctor consultation. Plus, there will be prizes drawn for participating drivers during each quarter along with a grand prize drawing for drivers who stay involved for the whole year. The prizes will be provided by Road Pro.

Smoking Makes The Road Dangerous

Eliminating smoking will help improve your personal health and increase the safety of the road. Drivers should really quit smoking because:

- Smoking is a major cause of distracted driving. While you’re looking for your cigarettes, lighting them, smoking them, and more, your eyes are off the road and your hands aren’t on the steering wheel.

- Smokers get less REM sleep, meaning you don’t get well rested even if you get the recommended amount of sleep. Driving is an exhausting job and driving tired is the equivalent to driving drunk.

- Smoking raises the risks of getting cancer, heart disease, strokes, heart attacks, blood clots, and more.

- Smokers are often affected by mental health disorders including depression, anxiety, anger, and more, which can be dangerous on the road.

ExpressTruckTax Believes In You!

There’s no better time to quit, plus joining Rigs Without Cigs will connect you to tons of other truckers who also want to kick the nasty habit. If that’s not enough you will also learn tips about how to quit and could win some awesome prizes. Do you part to make the roads safer and the nation’s truckers healthier by signing up today or while you’re attending GATS.

Your HVUT Form 2290 Is Due This Month!

0
Sound the alarm, your Heavy Vehicle Use Tax (HVUT) Form 2290 is due this month! That means time is officially running out and you need to file by the August 31st deadline in order to avoid getting faced with major penalties.

However, you don’t have to panic, ExpressTruckTax, your number 1 Form 2290 e-file provider is here to help with a few tips for you to remember when you quickly and easily file.

2290 Filing Tips

1. Slow down and enter all of your information correctly to avoid having your form rejected over a simple typo. VINs (Vehicle Identification Numbers) for example, consist of 17 characters with both letters and numbers, so they can be easy to mix up. Plus, the font is usually pretty small and hard to read, so bust out your glasses if you need to.

The letters I, O, and Q are not found in VINs to prevent confusion. So an I is a 1 and an O is a 0. Also, there are no spaces in your VIN. If you need to correct your VIN don’t worry, ExpressTruckTax lets you quickly and easily make VIN corrections for free.

2. Go ahead and get your EIN (Employer Identification Number) now if you need one. If you don’t have one then you need to apply for one with the IRS online. Once you apply you’ll receive your new EIN number instantly, but that doesn’t mean you can use it yet. It takes about 15 days for your EIN to become updated in the IRS’s system and forms can get rejected during that time.

The clock is already ticking, soon you won’t be able to wait 15 days before the deadline for your EIN to become updated. The deadline will be here before you know it, so again, if you need an EIN, handle it today.

3. Double check your information. You will be presented with a summary of your information with ExpressTruckTax before transmitting your return to the IRS, just so that you can reread over all of your details and make sure that everything is correct.

If you enter your name incorrectly then your stamped Schedule 1 will have the wrong name and then the DMV won’t accept it as proof of payment. Then you will have to file and pay for your HVUT all over again to get a new stamped Schedule 1.

4. Remember, you are required to include your suspended vehicles on your 2290 Form. A suspended vehicle is a vehicle that is expected to be used for less than 5,000 miles (7,500 for agricultural vehicles) on public highways during the tax period. Suspended or credit vehicles also include vehicles that were lost, stolen, or destroyed.

Including these vehicles may work to your advantage because in some cases you can receive tax credits or a refund for them. If ExpressTruckTax sees that the amount of credit you have is greater than the amount of HVUT you owe then we will automatically generate Form 8849, the Claim for Refund of Excise Taxes Form for you, so you can get your money back from the IRS faster.

5. Instantly file online with ExpressTruckTax! It’s easy, follow the step-by-step e-filing guide to have your stamped Schedule 1 sent to you via email within about 15 minutes. You don’t even need a computer to file. With the ExpressTruckTax app on your smartphone or tablet to file at any time, from any location.

Or call TSNAmerica at 803.386.0320 to have a 2290 expert file over the phone for you. All you have to do is sit back and answer a few questions to instantly handle your 2290 needs. Plus, you’ll instantly get a copy of your stamped Schedule 1 via email.
