Your HVUT Form 2290 Is Due Today

0
Did you notice that alarm going off in the back of your mind? That’s totally normal, don’t worry about it. It simply means that the Heavy Vehicle Use Tax Form 2290 deadline is here. Wait for what?! Actually, you may need to get moving a little, because today, August 31, is your last day to file without facing major 2290 penalties.

So, take a deep breath, relax, and head to ExpressTruckTax to knock out your Form 2290 in a matter of minutes. The process is quick and easy, so you don’t need to panic or feel the need to rush. Go ahead and file right now so you can get back to focusing on the road.

The HVUT Form 2290 Deadline Is Here

You need to file your Form 2290 online today or you could be subject to major penalties. For example, the penalty for failing to file by the deadline is 4.5% of the total tax due, assessed on a monthly basis for up to five months. If you file late and fail to make an HVUT payment by the deadline you’ll also face a monthly fee of .5% of the total tax you owe. Plus, an additional interest charge of .54% will also accrue.

If you think that amount doesn’t seem like much, think again! If you originally owed the IRS $550 then that amount would climb to $700 by the end of the five-month delinquency period. Plus, some states suspend vehicle registrations until proof of your HVUT payment can be provided.

That’s why it’s super important to file by the deadline. By filing with ExpressTruckTax you will get a copy of your stamped Schedule 1 via email within 15 minutes of filing. You can also choose to have it faxed or mailed to you.

Your stamped Schedule 1 serves as your proof of HVUT payment, so you really need it. Plus, it’s required by the DMV to register new heavy vehicles and to renew your tags. Without it, you won’t be legally operating your truck!

Enough chit chat, you know you have to file, so here’s how you do it. Head to ExpressTruckTax.com and follow their step-by-step guide in order to instantly complete your form. The instructions will tell you what information needs to go where.

If you’re out on the road, you don’t need to find a computer or an IRS office to file. Simply download the ExpressTruckTax mobile app on your smartphone or tablet. This way you can file from any location from the comfort of your own cab.

Don’t forget about the easiest way to file with TSNAmerica. All you have to do is call them at 803.386.0320 and one of their US-based representatives will file for you, over the phone. With 1 fast call, you’ll complete your Form 2290 and then receive a copy of your stamped Schedule 1 via email.

Understanding High Blood Pressure

0
Understanding High Blood Pressure
Understanding Blood Pressure
When you’re a truck driver, there are plenty of things you need to watch out for. Dangerous four wheelers. Coercive dispatchers. Unsavory characters at a rest stop.

But don’t forget, some dangers lurk within! Dangers like high blood pressure, also known as hypertension.

What is Hypertension?

High blood pressure is a condition in which the blood pressure of the arteries is increased. Hypertension is defined as blood pressure above 140/90, but is severe if the pressure is greater than 180/120.

Because it lacks obvious symptoms at first, hypertension often goes unseen. It can cause heart disease and stroke if it goes untreated for a long time.

HBP and Truckers

Hypertension can lead to heart disease, kidney disease, strokes, eye damage, and atherosclerosis. If you’re a truck driver, all of these conditions can disqualify you from getting your CDL.

Not only can your health deteriorate, you can lose your job! It’s not worth the risk, we think.

Take time to learn more about hypertension with the American Heart Association.

Treatment and Prevention

So how can you prevent and treat high blood pressure?

First up, start eating a healthier diet with less salt and exercising regularly. If you already have hypertension, taking medications can help lower blood pressure.

Let’s break this down a bit:
  • Diet: With extended hours on the road, there are plenty of drivers who would rather pull into a fast food joint than go for the healthier alternative. Being high in sodium, fat, and calories, fast food raises your risk to hypertension. Try cooking your own food in your truck for healthier meals.
  • Exercise: Yeah, we know. After driving for 11 hours straight, you don’t want to get out and jog. But if you can wake up with time before it's time to drive, you can at least start your day with a workout
  • Stress: Loneliness, traffic, accidents, finances, and sleep deprivation are all stress factors truckers have to contend with daily. When your stress levels go up, your blood pressure can go up. There are several ways you can reduce your stress, like hobbies and time management
Once they have hypertension, truckers will require medical certification to stay on the road. Your physical examination record will be electronically filed to the DOT and become a part of your driving record in the Commercial Driver’s License Information Systems (CDLIS). When we say hypertension is serious stuff, we mean it!

Let’s face it - truckers always have stress that can only make high blood pressure even worse. But if you’re looking to reduce some stress in your life, ExpressTruckTax has officially started pre-filing the IRS HVUT Form 2290! E-file now and get your tax filing over with, and then you’ll receive your stamped Schedule 1 come July 1st.

Better yet, use promo code ETT10 and save 10% on your filing fee!

What Is a Form 2290 Suspended Vehicle?

0
If a highway motor vehicle does not exceed mileage 5,000 miles or less (7,500 miles or less for agricultural vehicles) it is considered suspended and is exempt from tax. Mileage use limit means the use of a vehicle on public highways 5,000 miles or less (7,500 miles or less for agricultural vehicles). The mileage use limit applies to the total mileage a vehicle is used during a period, regardless of the number of owners.

An agricultural vehicle is any highway motor vehicle that is:
  • Used (or expected to be used) primarily for farming purposes, and
  • Registered (under state laws) as a highway motor vehicle used for farming purposes for the entire period. A special tag or license plate identifying the vehicle as used for farming is not required for it to be considered an agricultural vehicle.

So why would do you have to file if there is no tax due?  In order to obtain your registration and/or tags, state require and Stamped Schedule 1 from the IRS for all vehicles 55,000 lbs or more.  You must file Form 2290in order to receive your Stamped Schedule 1.

To E-File the Form 2290 online now, go to ExpressTruckTax.com or contact our Express Tax Support Center in Rock Hill, SC at 704-234-6005 or email us at support@ExpressTruckTax.com.  We have Spanish Support too!

Correcting Information on Form 2290

0
There are occasions when the information needs to be corrected on Form 2290 after it has been submitted and accepted by the IRS.  The process to correct the information depends on what information needs to be corrected.

Many corrections will require a phone call to the IRS at 866-699-4096.  For typos, misspellings and name corrections, you will want to correct the information on your Schedule 1 and fax it into the IRS and the IRS will make the corrections.  They may require additional information to confirm the correction, but will let you know when you call the number listed above.

If you have the wrong EIN on your Schedule 1, you will want to correct the EIN and fax it along with a letter explaining that the EIN was wrong.  If the return was accepting with an EIN that was not yours, it means the EIN belongs to someone else and the IRS will have to figure out whose payment you made.  If you are told that you need to file a new 2290 and pay the taxes again and then file for a refund using Form 8849, call back until you talk to someone who will assist you without making you pay the tax again and have to wait for a refund.

If your business name changes for any reason, but the EIN remains the same, you will change the business name and fill out the Name Change form and MAIL to the IRS.  A fax will not be accepted as an original signature is required.

The easiest and most common correction is the VIN correction.  VIN corrections can be done online with ExpressTruckTax and are completely free, even if you did not use ExpressTruckTax to file the original return.  You would file a Form 2290 Amendment and choose the VIN Correction option.  It is completely free and takes only a couple minutes!

For any questions about Form 2290 Corrections, go to ExpressTruckTax.com or contact our Express Tax Support Center in Rock Hill, SC by phone at 704-234-6005 or email at support@ExpressTruckTax.com.  We have Spanish Support too!

E-File Form 2290 for Vehicles First Used in March

0
When a new vehicle is placed in service, the Form 2290 must be filed by the last day of the following month. If you first placed your vehicle on the road anytime in March, you can file your Form 2290 anytime between now and April 30, 2013. If a vehicle was used during any part of a month, the tax will be calculated for that month as a whole. For example, if a vehicle was used on March 25th, it will be taxed as though it was used the entire month.

The Heavy Vehicle Tax Year runs from July 1 through June 30 of the following year. When a vehicle is first placed on the road at any time during the tax year, the tax will be prorated based on the number of months the vehicle will have been used during the tax year. So vehicles that were placed in service during the month of March will need to file HVUT using the Form 2290 by April 30, and the tax will be based on 4 months, instead of the full year. For vehicles first used in April, the tax will be based on 3 months and so on.

While the deadline is the last day of the following month, you may need to file your Form 2290 before the deadline in order to get or renew your IRP plates.  Many states require proof that your 2290 was filed before they will issue or renew your plates.

ExpressTruckTax.com allows you to fill out your IRS Form 2290 online and send it to the IRS electronically! This way you can get a stamped schedule 1 in about 10 minutes. Express Truck Tax is authorized by the IRS to E-File Form 2290. The taxpayer will then receive the Schedule 1 via email or fax as soon as the IRS processes the form. The form will then be watermarked by the IRS instead of an actual physical stamp. Be sure to get this filed today to avoid possible IRS penalties.

To E-File the Form 2290 online now, go to ExpressTruckTax.com or contact our Express Tax Support Center in Rock Hill, SC at 704-234-6005 or email us at support@ExpressTruckTax.com.  We have Spanish Support too!

When is Form 2290 Due?

0
When a new vehicle is placed in service, the Form 2290 must be filed by the last day of the following month. If a vehicle was used during any part of a month, the tax will be calculated for that month as a whole. For example, if a vehicle was used on October 15th, it will be taxed as though it was used the entire month. If you first placed your vehicle on the road anytime in October, you can file your Form 2290 anytime between now and November 30, 2012.

The tax will be prorated based on the number of months the vehicle will have been used during the tax year. So vehicles that were placed in service during the month of September will need to file HVUT using the Form 2290 by October 31, and the tax will be based on 10 months, instead of the full year. For vehicles first used in October, the tax will be based on 9 months and so on.

It is easy to mistakenly enter an incorrect VIN on the Form 2290. Correcting a VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) is very easy in our system. If they already have an account with us, they will need to click the orange 'Create New Return' button from the 'Dashboard' page inside their account. Once they click this button, they will be asked what form they would like to file. They will need to choose 2290 Amendment and then select the VIN correction option. The system will then walk them through the VIN correction filing process. The drivers can e-file a VIN correction through us even if the original 2290 was not filed through ExpressTruckTax.

There is no charge to e-file a VIN correction however they will need to enter a valid credit card in order to authenticate the filing. The card will not be charged.
