Determining First Use Month

0

When E-Filing Form 2290 with ExpressTruckTax, you will be asked to provide the first use date for the vehicle. This dates refers to the time when the vehicle was placed in service during the tax period.  If the vehicle has been placed in service for  previous years and will continue to be in service this year, the first use month will be July.  This is because the tax period for Heavy Vehicle Use Taxes begins in July and ends in June.

If a new vehicle is placed in service during the tax period, the first use month will be the month in which the vehicle was first used. If a vehicle was only used for part of the tax period, the tax will be prorated based on the number of months the vehicle was actually used. For example, if a vehicle was used on January 27th, it will be taxed as though it was used the entire month, regardless of the fact it was only used for a couple of days, and the tax will be based on 6 months, instead of the full year.

To E-File the Form 2290 online now, go to ExpressTruckTax.com or contact our Express Tax Support Center in Rock Hill, SC at 704-234-6005 or email us at support@ExpressTruckTax.com.  We have Spanish Support too!

New 2013-2014 Form 2290 Tax Year Is One Week Away

0
The new Heavy Vehicle Use Tax (HVUT) year begins July 1, 2013 and runs through June 30, 2014.  The Form 2290 filing deadline for all taxable vehicles for the new tax year is August 31, 2013.  All tax must be paid in full by the deadline to avoid penalties.

The tax is based on the gross vehicle weight and ranges from $100 to $550 per year per vehicle.  For vehicles first used during any other month than July during the tax period, the tax is prorated and due by the last day of the month following the month first used.  For example, if a vehicle will be first used in December, the Form 2290 would have to be filed by January 31, 2013.  There is no tax due for any vehicle used than 5,000 (7,500 agricultural) miles during a tax period.  The Form 2290 return would still need to be filed, but the vehicle would be classified as a suspended vehicle, so no tax would be due.  There are other circumstances where a vehicle is classified as suspended, but ExpressTruckTax enables you to identify those vehicles.

States require a stamped Schedule 1 as proof of payment for the Heavy Vehicle Use Tax in order to register the vehicle.  With ExpressTruckTax you will receive your stamped Schedule 1 within minutes, so you no longer have to wait to register or renew your vehicles.

For more information visit ExpressTruckTax.com or contact our Express Tax Support Center in Rock Hill, SC at 704-234-6005 or email us at support@ExpressTruckTax.com.  We have Spanish Support too!

E-File Form 2290 for Heavy Vehicles First Used in September 2012

0
The HVUT, or the Heavy Vehicle Use Tax is mandatory for vehicles to file the IRS Form 2290 after the first use month. The typical tax year for heavy vehicles begins on July 1st and ends on June 30th of the following year. For vehicles that are first used during the tax year, a prorated tax must be paid for the months that the vehicle was in use. This can be done with the IRS Form 2290 and the easiest way to e-file the 2290 is through ExpressTruckTax.com

When a new vehicle is placed in service, the Form 2290 must be filed by the last day of the following month. The tax will be prorated based on the number of months the vehicle will have been used during the tax year. If a vehicle was used during any part of a month, the tax will be calculated for that month as a whole. For example, if a vehicle was used on September 28th (or any date during the month), it will be taxed as though it was used the entire month. So vehicles that were placed in service during the month of September will need to file HVUT using the 2290 by September 30, and the tax will be based on 10 months, instead of the full year.

All you will need is some basic business information, EIN, VIN and Gross Weight of the Vehicle to complete the return.  Then you will transmit the return to the IRS and you will receive your Stamped Schedule 1 in just minutes! If you need assistance or have any questions, please contact us our US based customer support team in Rock Hill, SC at 704-234-6005 or email us at support@ExpressTruckTax.com.

Filing a Form 2290 Online

0
Only a few years ago, a wireless internet connection was a rarity. Now it is hard to find a place that does not offer Wi-Fi. Due to this increase in web access, people are becoming more and more productive. As you may have noticed, the IRS is also moving in this direction. Each year, more and more people E-File their tax returns with the IRS online. The IRS seems to be pushing this method of tax filing as well. One particular example of this is IRS Form 2290, which is used to collect what is referred to as the Heavy Vehicle Use Tax or HVUT. It is a fee that the IRS requires all vehicles with registered gross weights equal to or exceeding 55,000 pounds to pay annually on heavy vehicles operating on public highways.

It is already mandatory for all Trucking Companies or other organizations that need to file a Form 2290 for 25 or more heavy vehicles to E-File the return instead of paper filing it. This IRS Form contains a Schedule 1 which must be stamped by the IRS before the vehicle can be registered with the state Department of Motor Vehicles. This form can be mailed to the IRS, which can take up to several weeks to process. It could also be taken directly to the IRS office, which can take several hours of your day. This must be accompanied by a proof of EFTPS payment.

This form must be filed annually, for each taxable vehicle that is used on public highways during the current period. The Current Period begins on July 1st and ends on June 30th of the next year. A Form 2290 must also be filed once a vehicle is placed in service. The due date for each month is the last day of the following month. For example: if a vehicle is placed in service on April 3rd, the Form 2290 will be due on May 31st.

Even though there are thousands, if not millions, of Heavy Vehicles that are required to file HVUT the IRS still requires everyone to either mail the Form 2290 to the IRS or actually come to the IRS office. Fortunately there is an easier way that has recently become available. www.ExpressTruckTax.com allows you to fill out your IRS Form 2290 online and send it to the IRS electronically! This way you can get a stamped schedule 1 in about 10 minutes. Express Truck Tax is authorized by the IRS to file Form 2290. The taxpayer will then receive the schedule 1 via email or fax as soon as the IRS processes the form. The form will then be watermarked by the IRS instead of an actual physical stamp.
