Your HVUT Form 2290 Was Due Last Month

0
E-file Form 2290 With ExpressTruckTax
Happy fall! We hope you have been enjoying the cooler temperatures and maybe you’ve had the chance to catch a football game or two. Fall is a great time to relax before the holiday rush begins. You can really take a load off by knowing that you’re already handled you Heavy Vehicle Use Tax (HVUT) back in August around the 31st when From 2290 was due.

Unless...you missed the deadline?! That means your form is almost a month late. However, you don’t need to panic because the ExpressTruckTax team is here to help! We will answer your questions and explain exactly what you need to do.

My HVUT Is Late, What Do I Do?

You are probably wondering if there are any penalties for filing late so we will get those out of the way first. The penalty for filing HVUT Form 2290 late is equal to 4.5% of the total tax due assessed on a monthly basis for up to five months. If you also make a late HVUT payment you will also face a monthly penalty of .5% of the total tax due and additional interest charges of .54% will accrue per month as well.

Those are some hefty fees, so it’s best to go ahead and file as soon as possible to avoid having them grow larger. However, if you can provide reasonable cause for filing late you may not face penalties. Simply attach your reasonable cause with your Form 2290 when you file and the IRS may accept or reject it.

The HVUT period started in July 2017 and will end in June 2018. The due date is based on your first used month for your heavy vehicles. You have until the last day of the month following the month you first use your heavy vehicle on public highways to file.

So, because most truckers first used their trucks in July at the beginning of the period, they have until August 31st to file, making it a major HVUT deadline day. However, if first use your truck later in the year, then you have a later deadline. For example, if you first use your truck in November then you have until December 31 to file.

As mentioned above, if you have missed your deadline then it’s best to go ahead and file as soon as possible. Also, if your deadline coming up why not go ahead and knock it out with ExpressTruckTax?

How To File HVUT Form 2290

The e-filing process is quick and easy and can be completed online in a matter of minutes. All you have to do is follow the step by step e-filing guide, and you’ll begin by creating your free ExpressTruckTax account with your email address and personal password.

File Form 2290 With The ExpressTruckTax Mobile App
Then you will enter your business information such as the name, address, and EIN or Employer Identification Number. Next, you will enter your tax year and first used the month before entering your vehicle information including the VIN or Vehicle Identification Number and the taxable gross weight.

After that, we will calculate the amount of HVUT the IRS for you and you can pay that amount via direct debit or electronic funds withdrawal, EFTPS, check or money order.

Then we will perform a basic error check on your form to catch any simple mistakes. Double check your information to make sure it’s correct, and when you’re ready to pay for your form and transmit it directly to the IRS.

Then within 15 minutes of e-filing, you will receive a copy of your stamped Schedule 1 via email!!

Best of all, you don’t need a computer to file. Simply download the ExpressTruckTax App to your smartphone or tablet to file at any time, from any location. This makes it incredibly easy to file while you’re out on a trip because you can handle all of your HVUT form 2290 needs from the comfort of your own cab.

5 Diet Tips for the Sedentary Trucker

0
Now, we know not every trucker is OTR. But there are many members of our Trucking Nation who spend more time in their rig than they do anywhere else.

Hey, it’s a living! But now more than ever we know there are some health concerns with a sedentary lifestyle.

As for truckers? We know the human body faces additional stress from extended periods of sitting, but we also know those goods aren’t gonna deliver themselves!

There’s a dilemma, obviously. So we’ve gathered some healthy tips to help with your health concerns as a sedentary trucker.

Make a Plan

Like all good ventures, begin by planning out the route you’ll take.

Maybe you just eat too many carbs, and you need to cut them out. That’s a start! Just make sure you have a plan for the carb-withdrawal cravings, or you’ll end up at a truck stop binge eating potato chips!

Focus on your heavy hitters first, like the “empty” calories that don’t help you.

Calories Matter

Now, both men and women have a lot to contend with when it comes to calories. But how they intake calories differ, according to experts.

Typically, meal plans for women aim for about 1,800 calories per day (ages 19-50). According to the USDA, this could contain up to 2.5 cups of vegetables, 1.5 cups of fruits, 6 ounces of grain, and 5 ounces of high-protein foods like meats.

For men, a 2,400 calorie plan is encouraged. This would include 3 cups of vegetables, 2 cups of fruits, 8 ounces of grains, and 6.5 ounces of your high-proteins.

Now combating the sedentary life isn’t about losing weight, but if you master your calories you’ll see a definite decrease in pounds.

Fitness Helps

For a greater caloric deficit, become one of those fitness truckers!

We kid, we kid. Seriously, though, if you increase your burned calories, the deficit you create every day will contribute to your overall health.

It’s recommended that you get at least 30 minutes per day of exercise, which isn’t outlandish. We know most truckers are extremely busy, but it’s worth a shot. If you drive a flatbed, you probably get over 30 minutes of exercise per day.

Proteins are Everything

Basically, adult women need to eat about 46 grams of protein, and 56 grams of protein for men.

While carbs are an easy snack (I’m looking at you, bag of chips), there are plenty of protein alternatives you should seek out.

Instead of reaching for those chips, snack on some unsalted, roasted nuts!

Eat Unprocessed Foods

Speaking of chips, stay away from processed foods! I mean, we know you don’t have a ton of options on the road, but you can make some gains just by choosing wisely.

We know you might not be able to cook a full meal in your cab, but you can aim for more whole grains, fruits, and vegetables instead of processed snacks.

Also, just eat more salads. The vegetable kind!

At the end of the day, your bodily health is as important to your career as your truck’s maintenance. Don’t let it pass you by!

And don’t forget, the IFTA deadline is fast approaching. Generating your fuel tax report with ExpressTruckTax and ExpressIFTA is as easy as ever.

It's 2290 Deadline Day!

0
Hard to believe another tax season has come and gone; it seems like it just began. Today officially marks the deadline for Heavy Vehicle Use Taxes and Form 2290, and for those of you that haven’t filed yet, it’s time to get a move on!

Why push off what you have to do any longer and subject yourself to late penalties? We know you give enough of your hard-earned money to the IRS every year, so make sure that you get filed on time so you don’t have to give them any more!

How Can I File Today?

Just head on over to ExpressTruckTax.com, and you can get e-filed and receive your Schedule 1 in minutes! If you haven’t already filed with us before, you’ll need to create an account. All you’ll need to e-file is your:

  • EIN (employer identification number)
  • Vehicle VIN (Vehicle Identification Number)
  • Vehicle Taxable Gross Weight (Weight of Truck+Trailer+Maximum Load)

Once you finish your filing, we’ll send you a copy of your Schedule 1 to your email as soon as it’s accepted, which usually takes 20 minutes or less. You’ll also have the option to receive a text notification upon acceptance, automatic fax of your Schedule 1, and even a postal mailing of your full form if you’d like.

Plus, if you’ve filed with us before and none of your information has changed, you can copy last year’s return! Just click “Start New Return” from your dashboard after login, and then after choosing the tax year and first used month, just select “Copy a Previously Accepted Return”. No needless data entry, just click, pay, and transmit. Doesn’t get much easier than that, right?

What Happens if I Don’t Get Filed Today?

Well we don’t want to scare you but if you don’t file on time, you will be subject to late fees and penalties. The penalty for late payment of highway use taxes is 4.5% interest that accrues monthly on the total tax amount due. So for those of you with larger tax bills be sure that you file on time, because the interest will add up in a hurry.

If you need any help going through our software or have any 2290 related questions, just give our support specialists a call at 704.234.6005, or email us at support@expresstrucktax.com. We’ll be extending our support hours just for YOU! That’s right, we’ll be here all day for the deadline to help answer any of your questions and to make sure you get filed.

E-File Form 2290 for Vehicles First Used in December

0

The filing period is now open to file Heavy Vehicle Use Taxes for vehicles first used in December. When a new vehicle is placed in service, the Form 2290 must be filed by the last day of the following month. If you first placed your vehicle on the road anytime in December, you can file your Form 2290 anytime between now and January 31, 2014. If a vehicle was used during any part of a month, the tax will be calculated for that month as a whole. For example, if a vehicle was used on December 25th, it will be taxed as though it was used the entire month.

The Heavy Vehicle Tax Year runs from July 1 through June 30 of the following year. When a vehicle is first placed on the road at any time during the tax year, the tax will be prorated based on the number of months the vehicle will have been used during the tax year. So for vehicles that were placed in service during the month of December will need to file HVUT using the Form 2290 by January 31, and the tax will be based on 7 months, instead of the full year. For vehicles first used in January, the tax will be based on 6 months and so on.

While the deadline is the last day of the following month, you may need to file your Form 2290 before the deadline in order to get or renew your IRP plates.  Many states require proof that your 2290 was filed before they will issue or renew your plates.

ExpressTruckTax.com allows you to fill out your IRS Form 2290 online and send it to the IRS electronically! This way you can get a stamped schedule 1 in about 10 minutes. ExpressTruckTax is authorized by the IRS to E-File Form 2290. The taxpayer will then receive the Schedule 1 via email or fax as soon as the IRS processes the form. The form will then be watermarked by the IRS instead of an actual physical stamp. Be sure to get this filed today to avoid possible IRS penalties.

To E-File the Form 2290 online now, go to ExpressTruckTax.com or contact our Express Tax Support Center in Rock Hill, SC at 704-234-6005 or email us at support@ExpressTruckTax.com.  We have Spanish Support too!
